Spring Evening in the Eastern Provinces
by Du Fu

The flowers are lost
In darkness as it overtakes
The palace walls

There's a mournful
Call from a dove
Settling down to roost

Overhead the stars
Shift and sparkle like
Chang An city at night

The moon waxes high
Into the Ninth Heaven

Sitting at my desk
I hear a gold key turn
In the lock

Or is it just
The wind stirring
The jade stone chimes

Tomorrow morning
I have much business
To attend to in court

But meanwhile I site here
Troubled by countless
Unanswered questions
